Irinéa Maria @ The Home Smith (Sep 9)

Irinéa Maria Ribeiro Quartet feat. Luanda Jones

Rio native Irinéa Maria Ribeiro is part of the golden generation of musicians who lived the bossa nova movement and created the genre known as MPB – Música Popular Brasileira. A composer whose songs have been covered by some of Brazil’s finest singers and have won many of her country’s famous song festivals, Irinéa has only recently emerged from behind the scenes to release her own solo CD. Her classic Brazilian songwriting and singing never fail to raise goosebumps on the skin of this writer, and I’m honoured to be able to play with her. I encourage you not to miss this stunning performer in a rare visit to Canada. The wonderful Toronto-based vocalist Luanda Jones will also be appearing alongside Irinéa (who happens to be her mother!), so this will really be a concert not to be missed.  (By Gord Sheard)
